Sports and recreational activities provide a positive outlet for the children’s energy. Physical exercise is a postive way for many of our children to release emotional tension, anger and frustration. Exercise also helps with problems of childhood obesity, an issue for many children of dysfunctional families.

Each children’s dormitory wing has access to a separate outdoor play area; the areas are designed for different age groups. The design of the play areas allows staff to observe the children at play and to supervise their safety.

Physical education classes are provided for the school age children. Volunteers organize and teach physical fitness classes once per week for each age group. The children learn skills and improve movement, balance, coordination, and agility. Children participate in individual and group exercises, develop teamwork, and practice good sportsmanship. In addition, yoga techniques are taught; these practices help the children to relax and focus. Other fitness activities include outings for swimming, hiking and bowling.

A planned playground structure will allow kids and teens the opportunity for climbing and playing; you can help us reach our playground structure goal by making a donation to the $50,000 total cost. The Evos system is built to engage children of all ages. It offers endless physical, mental and creative challenges. Climbing cables build upper-body strength and core strength as kids and teens balance and counterbalance their bodies against forces of gravity. As there is no fixed entry point, imaginations get a workout too! This makes exercise look like fun!
